Hair transplantation is a surgical technique that moves individual hair follicles
from a part of the body called the 'donor site' to bald or balding part of the body
known as the 'recipient site'. Hair Transplantation is used to restore eyelashes,
eyebrows, beard hair, chest hair, pubic hair and to fill in scars caused by accidents
or surgery such as face-lifts and hair transplants.
There are two technique used for hair transplant:
1. FUE.
2. FUT.
FUE harvesting, individual follicular units are extracted directly from the hair
restoration patient's donor area, ideally one at a time. This differs from strip-harvesting
because in strip harvesting, a strip of skin is removed from the patient and then
dissected into many individual follicular units.
The FUE hair transplant technique is used by means of a 3-step procedure and utilizes
a number of designs of instruments that is applied of all manual, automated, and
motorised, even robotized mediums. However, the choice of instrumentation is subjected
to the surgeon’s credibility.
An FUE surgery usually takes place in morning shift. And patients are encouraged
to bring their own choice of movie, music or comic book only to kill time during
the surgery, patients can also opt to sleep through it all with or without oral
sedatives.
The new advanced FUT technique has not only favored upon yielding the most naturalistic
recipient coverage, but also concentrates on the resulting donor scar to be more
cosmetically acceptable.The patient's hair is transplanted in naturally occurring
groups of 1 to 4 hairs, called follicular units.
Follicular units also contain sebaceous (oil) glands, nerves, a small muscle, and
occasional fine vellus hairs. In FUT these small units allow the surgeon to safely
transplant thousands of grafts in a single session, which maximizes the cosmetic
impact of the procedure.
FUT is considered an advance over older hair transplantation procedures that used
larger grafts & often produced unnatural look.The results will mimic the way hair
grows in nature and will be undetectable as a hair transplant.
