The Natural Way to Get a Beauty Spot: Lentigo Transplant

Beauty spots have been considered a mark of elegance for centuries — think of the iconic mole above the lip or on the cheek that so many people find striking. It’s no surprise that patients regularly ask us how they can get one if nature hasn’t given them one already. Until now, the options on offer have been temporary stickers or tattoos. At Shivani Skin Care & Cosmetic Clinic, we’ve pioneered a technique that gives a genuinely permanent, completely natural beauty spot — by transplanting one a patient already has.

Why the Usual Options Fall Short

If you’ve looked into getting a beauty spot before, you’ve probably come across two options:

  • Stick-on beauty marks — small stickers made of porcelain or plastic. They look fine in photos, but they peel off easily and need to be reapplied constantly, which makes them impractical for everyday wear.
  • Tattooed beauty marks — applied by a cosmetic professional or tattoo artist. These last longer, but “permanent” is a bit of a misnomer: tattoo pigment breaks down and fades over months to years, so touch-ups are usually needed. There’s also a real, if small, risk of complications like foreign-body reactions or infection from the ink itself, and the final look depends heavily on the artist’s skill.

Neither option gives you an actual mole — just a convincing approximation of one.

Our Approach: Transplanting a Real Mole

The idea behind our technique is refreshingly simple: if a patient already has a lentigo or small mole somewhere on their body — often in a spot they’d rather not have it, like the cheek — we can relocate it to wherever they’d like a beauty spot instead, using the same tissue-grafting principles that have long been used in vitiligo surgery and hair transplantation.

How it works

  1. Selecting the donor mole — an existing lentigo or small nevus is identified as the donor tissue.
  2. Local anesthesia — both the donor and recipient sites are numbed for comfort.
  3. Precise excision — a skin biopsy punch matched exactly to the size of the mole (down to fractions of a millimetre) is used to excise it, along with a small, matching-depth core of tissue.
  4. Preparing the recipient site — after discussing exactly where the patient wants their new beauty spot, a punch of the same size and depth is excised from that site.
  5. The transplant — the mole is placed into the new site and secured in place with surgical glue.
  6. Closing the donor site — the area the mole was taken from is closed with a simple suture.

Because the graft derives its blood supply from the recipient site — initially through a fibrin layer, then via new capillary connections within 2–3 days — it survives, heals, and continues to look and behave exactly like the natural mole it always was.

What Makes This Technique Different

The result is instant and, because it’s the patient’s own pigmented skin, completely natural in colour, texture, and appearance — nothing tattooed, nothing stuck on, no fading, no touch-ups. It’s the same graft-survival principle that already has decades of track record in vitiligo repigmentation surgery and follicular unit hair transplantation, simply applied to a new, purely cosmetic purpose.

Who Is This For?

This is a great option for anyone who:

  • Has an existing mole or lentigo they’re not fond of in its current location
  • Wants a beauty spot but doesn’t want to rely on stickers or tattoo touch-ups
  • Wants a completely natural-looking, permanent result

It’s a quick, minimally invasive, in-office procedure performed under local anaesthesia — no downtime beyond routine wound care for the donor site.

The Takeaway

As dermatosurgeons, part of our job is recognising when a well-established medical technique can be adapted to meet a purely aesthetic request. Lentigo transplantation is a good example of exactly that — borrowing a decades-old, reliable grafting principle and using it to give patients something stickers and tattoos never could: a real, permanent beauty spot.
